About Alasdair

Alasdair Parkinson is a British composer, producer and guitarist based between Edinburgh and London. Since graduating from Berklee College of Music where he studied on a scholarship, Alasdair has written music for major-labels, big brands and worked with some of the industry’s best musicians.

Alasdair’s recent work includes a commissioned album of music for Butter Music and Sound, an arrangement of ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” for ITV’s hit show Mamma Mia, as well as original works for Universal, BBC and SATV. His music has featured on a variety of tv shows including Ancient Aliens, Real Murders of Atlanta and more.

At Berklee, Alasdair was able to hone his skills as a guitar player whilst also delving into the world of composition and production. He arranged for a wide variety of groups, recorded and conducted an original orchestral piece, learned the business, and collaborated with extremely talented artists. With Boston being a hub for creativity, he was also able to meet some talented film makers and teamed up to create the scores for some outstanding short films. For his exceptional work at Berklee, he was awarded the Contemporary Writing Achievement award and graduated with first-class honours.

With a passion for music at a young age, Alasdair has developed skills in many genres of music and studied guitar with Mike Walker, Mark White, Tomo Fujita and Tim Miller. Alasdair has been hired for session guitar work at SARM studios (London), The Mixing House (Boston) and performed at the Berklee Performance Centre, Cadogan Hall and for a West Side Story production. He also plays drums, piano and bass.

Born and raised in London, Alasdair grew up playing with the UK National Youth Jazz collective and got the chance to play with Dave Holland, Mark Mondesir and Dominic Ashworth. In 2020 he reached the semi-finals of the prestigious UK BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year competition. Jazz has given Alasdair the tools he needs to create any music, and this perspective gives him his compositional voice in all styles.

Continuing to explore new sound worlds, Alasdair is currently working on his own project which pulls together his influences as a guitar player and composer.
